3 JobsCentral Singapore Jobfair 2011

Planning to find a job here in Singapore? Don't know where to start?

Now's your chance! JobsCentral has scheduled a job fair here in Singapore. For those who are planning to go here, make it during the fair! It's scheduled on 13th and 14th of August 2011 in Hall 403 and 404 of Suntec Convention Centre. If you have a valid working pass and already working here but planning to find another job, go there on the 13th. If you're still in the Philippines and planning to get a job here in Singapore, then go there on the 14th. Which both falls on the weekend.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Register online on the JobsCentral website as soon as possible. It's way better than registering on-site which, of course, will be full of lines and queues. Deadline of online registration is on 12 noon August 12, 2011. A fee of $10 (roughly Php340) is required for applicants without valid work passes and payable at the entrance. For those with valid work passes, no entrance fee is required.

Please read the details carefully.

131 Invitation Letter from Philippine Embassy

For those who want to go to Singapore, sometimes it is required by an immigration official to present an invitation letter from a relative or friend who is in Singapore. Last time, when I went here, I only have an invitation from my sister which was just a simple invitation letter with her name and IC number.

What I heard from my friends, right now they require an invitation letter signed by officials from the Philippine Embassy here in Singapore. This invitation letter should be applied personally in the embassy and has a fee($45?). My housemate went there last Wednesday and he was in for a surprise. The invitation letter will be processed for several days and you would only be able to get a copy after that time. Not recommended for those who procrastinate. If you have friends or relatives who plans to visit you, try to get an invitation letter as soon as possible.

0 Off to our first Weekend Adventure!

Today's the day we're going to Universal Studios Singapore. My first time, but I think not my last. My sis tells me that I'd enjoy the Shrek show and The Mummy Returns ride. I don't know. Let's see. I'm not much a fan of rides and thrills, but I think this time it will be ought to be good. It's Universal Studios, nonetheless.

Today's also my first ever Weekend Adventure. I will be going around Singapore more, traveling around, looking for unique places, and good food, on Saturdays. This will be a regular activity of mine, for a number of reasons.

Watch out for the ensuing adventures, which I will be posting here on Sundays.

118 Exiting from Singapore to Johor Bahru and back

(Additional Update: 12 August 2011

Milca, a commenter on the 'Going through Immigration' post, notified and confirmed to us that the Singapore Immigration officials imposed a new rule when exiting and entering Singapore via Malaysia. You should stay in Malaysia for five(5) days before you can enter to Singapore again. This is a big change compared to the 24-hour-stay rule before. Although I haven't heard about this from other people, and didn't see this kind of announcement on ICA's website, it's a fair warning for those who plan to exit to Malaysia.)

Being denied in the immigration is a shocking and hurtful experience. Especially when you've put all your money and effort to find a job in Singapore and other countries for a better life. Currently, the Philippine Immigration is tightening their measures to prevent illegally recruited persons to fly out of the country. Singapore immigration is also doing the same on their immigration policies on people going in and out of the country.

0 A Reminder to Jobhunters

For those of you who are planning to find work here in Singapore this month of February, please remember that the 3rd and 4th day is Chinese New Year and almost all of the establishments are closed during the time, especially companies. If you plan to go here, do so after the holidays to avoid using up the two days for nothing. Some companies also make Monday after the Chinese New Year a holiday, so please take note of this.

0 Increase Your Chances of Getting That Job

Image from yaojihumenity.blogspot.com
The Chinese New Year is getting nearer and nearer. People are already preparing for the celebrations. Hong Bao's are given free on supermarkets, decorations being set up on the streets and malls. Abalones are sold and advertisements about these sea creatures are everywhere. And the most important part of the Chinese New Year celebration, a number of IT people have already tendered their resignations and their positions will be vacant for you to grab.

578 Going through Immigration successfully

(If you find this article helpful, help others by sharing it on Facebook or Twitter by click the button beside this.)

It's always a hassle when you're going out of the Philippines, especially if you want to find work outside the country. Thinking of how to get past the immigration gate without any problems, I faced the same problems as the other Filipinos did. I want to share with you my experience and the lessons that I've learned during one of the lowest times of my life: I was once denied to get past that gate.

7 Celebrating New Year in Marina Bay Singapore

It's almost 2011! Just a few hours to go before New Year. My wife and I decided to celebrate our first New Year in Marina Bay. There will be fireworks display after the countdown in the area. We agreed to go there since MRT and bus services will be extended. MRT will be running until 2am and the night bus at around 5am. This will be a big help so that we will have a more convenient option to go home rather than competing for a taxi with other several thousands of people.
