Here's a video clip of the fireworks display during the 2011 New Year celebration in Marina Bay Singapore:

The Merlion |
We were sitting on the steps in Merlion Park, directly in front of the One Fullerton signage. We stopped there at around 8pm, and the crowd is already pouring in the park premises. Luckily, we already had our early dinner in Makansutra on the other side of Marina Bay and found this good spot to watch the fireworks. People with good SLR cameras are setting up their tripods and trying to find a good angle. Others are taking pictures of the sights around the bay.

See how many people there are.. |
The fireworks show was very good, lasting for 8 minutes. We went home very happy on this New Year celebration. The only not-so-happy part of this event was the crowd control after. We had a hard time going outside the Merlion Park as people slowly walked and piled up the stairs. It took us about 30 minutes before getting out of the crowd and walk towards Clarke Quay.
Overall experience was very nice, but if you want to celebrate New Year in Singapore and view the great fireworks display without hassle, I suggest you book a room near Marina Bay so you won't have to contend with the humongous crowd. You can choose from Marina Bay Sands, Swissotel the Stamford, The Fullerton, etc. rooms with balcony.
