It all started when I was in 2nd year high school. I can still remember who brought me to that computer shop. The day I was introduced to the awesomeness of Counter-Strike.
During that time, this first-person shooter game was just starting to pick up and steady gaining notoriety among gamers. I never knew any game in PC except those built-in like Solitaire and Minesweeper. When I finally tried it, I immediately fell in love with the game. I got to play with guns. Somehow I remembered the times when I was a kid that I would like to have toy guns and play the game of the good cops and bad guys. It was like a dream come true.
Counter-Strike has an unbreakable grip on me. I was addicted. After school we would go to that computer shop painted in blue and play long hours. High school turned to college. New games came but nothing can stop me from playing Counter-Strike.
Then I started to skip playing. I need to stop playing and focus on my studies. I tried playing other games, and play in a limited time. During the last year of college, I was still playing but not that addicted anymore.
I found a job and started to work three months after graduating. When I finally adjusted to working life, they suddenly appeared. There are Counter-Strike fanatics in the office just like me! As you may have guessed, we started playing during lunch breaks. It even reached to the point that we would play after work hours just before going home. The addiction was coming back to all over again.
Now, I'm here in Singapore and staying with friends. Just recently, a cousin of my housemate came here to find work and guess what, he's a gamer and plays Counter-Strike. So once everyone is home and what needs to be done is already done, we set up our laptops and fire up the LAN party. And you guessed it right, again! Counter-Strike LAN party.
Old habits -- really -- die hard.
